Claude Code consulting for engineering teams
Automata AI rolls out Anthropic's Claude Code across Australian dev teams: setup, conventions, MCP integrations, CI/CD hooks, and training. From scattered licences to a standardised, governed capability in 14 days.
The problem
Why does Claude Code adoption stall?
Most engineering teams that try Claude Code see the same pattern: two or three engineers get remarkable results, the rest bounce off it, and leadership cannot tell whether the spend is paying off. The tool is not the bottleneck. The missing pieces are shared conventions, integration with your real systems, and security boundaries your CTO can sign off on.
That is the gap we close. Automata AI is part of Sydney's specialist Claude consultancy, and Claude Code rollouts for teams of 5 to 50 engineers are the work we do most. We use Claude Code daily on our own production systems, so the conventions we hand you are ones we run ourselves.
What a rollout covers
What does a Claude Code rollout include?
Setup and configuration
Day one, done right
Claude Code installed and configured across your team with the right plan, permissions, and model settings. We handle licensing decisions, workspace structure, and the security review your IT team will ask for.
CLAUDE.md conventions and standards
Your codebase, encoded
Well-written CLAUDE.md files are the difference between an assistant that guesses and one that knows your stack. We write the conventions, project context, and guardrails so every engineer gets consistent, high-quality output.
MCP and tooling integration
Connected to your real systems
Custom Model Context Protocol servers connecting Claude Code to your databases, internal APIs, ticketing, and documentation. Your engineers stop copy-pasting context and start working against live systems.
CI/CD and review workflow hooks
AI in the pipeline, not beside it
Code review automation, test generation, and pre-merge checks wired into your Git workflow. We design where AI fits in your pipeline and where human review stays mandatory.
Team training and adoption
Engineers who actually use it
Hands-on sessions on your real codebase, not toy examples. Prompting patterns, agentic workflows, and the habits that separate teams getting 3x gains from teams that gave up after a week.
Security guardrails and governance
Safe enough for regulated teams
Access controls, audit logging, secret-handling rules, and a written AI coding policy. Built for Australian compliance expectations including APRA and Privacy Act considerations.
Who it's for
Who is Claude Code consulting for?
Our sweet spot is teams of 5 to 50 engineers inside Australian businesses of 50 to 2,000 staff: software companies, financial services, professional services firms with internal dev teams, and anyone whose engineers are already experimenting with AI tools without a shared standard.
If your team also needs the wider organisation on Claude, we pair the rollout with Claude training for non-technical teams and Claude Cowork implementation so engineering gains do not stay siloed in engineering.
Teams already running agents in production usually arrive with a second question: what the API spend should actually be. The AI model cost calculator compares published prices across the major providers and prices what routing work differently would save.
Cost
What does Claude Code cost in Australia?
Claude Code is included with paid Claude plans rather than licensed separately, so the cost per engineer is the plan cost. There is no per-seat Claude Code fee to negotiate and no minimum term. What actually varies between teams is usage: an engineer running long agent sessions all day reaches a plan limit that a lighter user never sees, which is why the honest answer to “what will this cost us” is a range.
| Plan | Per person | What it gives an engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | about A$24–28/mo | Claude Code for one engineer at normal daily use. The right starting point for a pilot, and enough to find out whether the team will actually adopt it. |
| Max | from about A$140/mo | Claude Code running most of the working day. Buy it for the two or three engineers who hit Pro limits, not for the whole team. |
| Team | from about A$28/seat/mo | Shared projects, one invoice, central seat management. Minimum seat counts apply, and premium seats cover the people who would otherwise need Max. |
| Enterprise | from about A$28/seat + usage | SSO, domain capture and audit logging. The trigger is a security review or an audit obligation rather than headcount. |
- Anthropic bills in US dollars and states that prices exclude applicable tax. AUD figures use the rate on 25 August 2026 and will move with it.
- Agents built against the Anthropic API are billed per token and are separate from these subscriptions. The AI model cost calculator prices that side.
- Our rollout fee is quoted per engagement and is not on this table — this is what the tooling costs before anyone helps you deploy it.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does a Claude Code consultant actually do?
A Claude Code consultant gets an engineering team from individual experimentation to a standardised, governed rollout. At Automata AI that covers setup and configuration, CLAUDE.md conventions, MCP integrations with your internal systems, CI/CD hooks, security guardrails, and hands-on training on your real codebase.
How much does a Claude Code rollout cost in Australia?
Our fixed-price Claude Code rollout package runs over roughly two weeks and typically starts from around $10,000 AUD depending on team size and integration depth. Larger engagements with custom MCP servers and CI/CD automation are scoped individually, with outcome-based pricing available.
How is this different from just giving engineers Claude Code licences?
Licences alone produce uneven results: a few enthusiasts get value while most of the team plateaus. A structured rollout standardises conventions, connects Claude Code to your actual systems through MCP, sets security boundaries, and trains the whole team on proven workflows. That is what moves the velocity needle across a team rather than for individuals.
Is Claude Code safe to use on a proprietary codebase?
On Claude Team, Enterprise, and API plans, Anthropic does not train models on your data. We add repository-level guardrails, secret-handling rules, and audit logging on top, and we document the setup so your security team can review it. For regulated industries we design the rollout around APRA, ASIC, and Privacy Act expectations.
How does Claude Code compare with GitHub Copilot or Cursor?
Copilot and Cursor are strong autocomplete and editor tools. Claude Code is an agentic tool: it plans multi-step changes, runs tests, fixes failures, and works across an entire codebase from the terminal or IDE. Many teams run both. Where teams want AI to take on whole tasks rather than suggest lines, Claude Code is currently the strongest option, and it is where we specialise.
How long until our team sees results?
Most teams see measurable gains inside the first two weeks, which is the length of our standard rollout. We set a baseline during setup, then measure cycle time, review turnaround, and shipped output over the following month so the gains are evidenced rather than anecdotal.
How does Claude Code compare with Cursor?
Cursor is an editor with AI built in; Claude Code is an agent that works in the terminal and across a whole repository. Teams that pick Cursor usually want an IDE that autocompletes well. Teams that pick Claude Code usually want multi-file changes, refactors and CI work done without a human driving each edit. Plenty of teams run both, and the cost question is per-seat licences versus usage.
What does Claude Code cost?
Claude Code is included with paid Claude plans rather than licensed separately — Pro about A$28 a month, Max from about A$140 a month, Team seats from about A$28 per seat per month, at the rate on 25 August 2026. Heavy use consumes more of the plan allowance, which is why Max exists. A rollout cost is separate from a licence cost.
